The Multi-Functional Electrical storage unit or MFE is the mid-tier EU storage device added by Industrial Craft 2, preceded by the BatBox and followed by the MFSU. It can store 600,000 EU (the equivalent of fifteen BatBoxes), and is a common buffer between a generator and the machines to be powered.
The MFE will accept up to Medium Voltage (packets under 128 EU/t) inputs, such as from a Medium Voltage Solar Array. The MFE will also output 128 EU/t, and as such, it will blow up any Low Voltage machinery and cabling it's attached to. The use of a LV Transformer or Transformer Upgrades for each individual machine is required if one wishes to connect these machines to the MFE.
The MFE's GUI features two slots. The top slot can be used for recharging tools, batteries, or Energy Crystals. Batteries and crystals can also be placed in the bottom slot of the GUI to recharge the MFE itself.
Like the BatBox and MFSU, the MFE has five input faces and one output face. The output face faces the player when the block is placed. The output face is marked by an orange dot, and the output face can be changed using a Wrench, an Electric Wrench, or a Prototype OmniWrench. All energy storage devices will reset the energy loss calculations for running cables long distances, which makes them useful inline if one needs to transport energy hundreds of blocks.
The MFE is used in crafting its successor, the MFSU, as well as the MV Charging Bench and the Forcefield Core.
Redstone Behavior[]
The BatBox, MFE, and MFSU can be configured to emit a redstone signal under certain conditions.
Behavior | Description |
---|---|
Emit if full | When the storage device is at maximum charge, it will emit a redstone signal. |
Emit if partially filled | When the storage device is filled some ways between empty and maximum, it will emit a redstone signal. |
Emit if empty | When the storage device contains no charge, it will emit a redstone signal. |
Do not output energy | If a redstone signal is supplied to the device on any of its faces, it will not output EU. |
Do not output energy unless full | If a redstone signal is supplied to the device on any of its faces, it will not output EU until the storage device is at maximum charge. |
