The Canning Machine is an Industrial Craft 2 machine that takes food and fuel and packages them into various containers. Primarily, it's used with Tin Cans to package food into the more compact, easier-to-store (Filled) Tin Cans, but it's also used for filling Fuel Cans with Coalfuel Cells or Biofuel Cells and for filling the CF Backpack with CF Pellets.
The Canning Machine is a Low Voltage machine and can only accept 32 EU/t. Unlike most other Industrial Craft 2 machines, the Canning Machine has no upgrade slots. If one wishes to connect the Canning Machine to the MFE, MFSU, or any of the Medium and High Voltage generators, an LV Transformer is required.
The Canning Machine only works when the precise amount of containers needed to store the raw materials is inserted into the GUI. In the case of food, the amount of Tin Cans needed to make the machine work is the amount of points on the Hunger meter the food item would normally fill, rounded up.
The amount of time an operation takes depends on the amount of materials to be processed; Steak, which fills four points on the Hunger meter, takes four times as long to process as a Cookie, which only fills one point on the Hunger meter. Each point on the Hunger meter takes about 2.6 seconds to process in a Canning Machine. Thus, the aforementioned Cookie takes 2.6 seconds to process, while the Steak takes about 10.4 seconds.
Food items with negative effects, such as Rotten Flesh or Raw Chicken, will be processed into specially marked "bad" (Filled) Tin Cans. These will not stack with normal cans, and eating them bestows the user with the same negative effects as having eaten the food item on its own would have.
The Canning Machine's GUI features four slots. Food and fuel to be processed are placed in the top slot, while the containers are placed underneath it. The extra slot on the side is for power sources, such as a RE-Battery.
